Glorious news if you're looking for a new ZX Spectrum game to play from this weekend and beyond, as thanks to a heads up from both Andy Green, and Chris Wilkins of Fusion Retro Books. We've been told Sebastian Braunert, Uwe Geiken, Rich Hollins and Andy Green with Lobo has released the down scrolling shoot em up of Pi-Dentity; a brand new ZX Spectrum 48k game developed on the SEUD platform!

The weather is HOT yet most of us are either stuck in doors with nothing to do. So to cheer you all up, especially if you have a ZX Spectrum or through emulation, as Zosya Entertaiment has released their latest ZX Spectrum game ' Bonnie and Clyde '. What makes this game rather special other than the awesome loading screen above, is the fact that this game is not only feature packed with loads of levels to keep you going through those boring days ahead, but the game is based around the early 1900's Outlaws Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow.

Retroworks are a group of very talented European programmers who make some excellent games for some of our favourite retro computers including Spectrum, Msx and Amstrad cpc. The Lost Treasures of Tulum for the ZX Spectrum 128k is certainly no exception. A very colourful and large sprawling adventure which sees you as the protagonist Joe Díaz, exploring an Ancient temple on a personal quest to explore the history of the legend of Coatlicue deep within the caverns of Tulum.

There has arguably never been a more perfect moment for virtual reality. Not only has VR just received its first truly bona-fide exclusive blockbuster in the form of Half-Life: Alyx, it also stumbled into a moment in history when literally billions of people are truly feeling the core appeal of "going to exotic places without leaving your home" more deeply than ever.
Almost a million new people registered with SteamVR, Valve's storefront for VR games, in April. To put that in context, the 950,000 people who signed up in April bring the all-time total to around 2.7 million, meaning that a third of all SteamVR users registered in the past month alone.
There's another piece of context that's important, of course, which is that 2.7 million isn't actually a whole lot of users for an entire market segment served by competing hardware offerings from some of the world's biggest gaming companies. It is still somewhere in the region of 2% of Steam's overall user base, suggesting that the uptake of VR headsets by PC gamers is actually somewhat lower, proportionally, than the uptake by PS4 gamers.

WinUAE v4.4.0 Beta 2 is released. WinUAE is the commodore amiga emulator for Windows. WinUAE is a mostly complete software emulation of the hardware of the Commodore Amiga 500/1000/2000. A Commodore Amiga, for those who don’t know, is a 16/32 bit computer system based on the Motorola 680×0 CPU and a few specially designed custom chips that provide very good graphics and sound capabilities. Its first incarnation, the A1000, appeared in 1985, followed by the highly successful A500 and A2000 models. WinUAE is a port of the originally written for Unixish systems UAE; but over time, it seems the Windows port, WinUAE has become the best version available on any platform. WinUAE is free software: you are welcome to distribute copies of it and/or modify it, under certain conditions. There is no warranty of any kind for UAE. In 1983 Matthew Smith and published by Bug-Byte released the well known classic of Manic Miner for the ZX Spectrum. Although it was later released again by Software Projects for the C64, it was the first game in the willy series and being voted number 25 in the Your Sinclair official top 100 Spectrum games of all time. So why are we mentioning this classic game yet again and not long after Manic Miner 64DX was released for the C64?

The MicroProse publishing brand is being resuscitated after an absence of almost 20 years.
The last time MicroProse was active as a publisher was in 2002, at which point it was owned by Infogrames. The French company had purchased MicroProse and its IP as part of a larger deal for Hasbro Interactive the year before.
The last game to be released under the brand was Grand Prix 4 in 2002, by which point Infogrames had already decided to stop using the MicroProse name on its products.
However, MicroProse is now making a comeback under new owner and CEO David Lagettie, a simulation software entrepreneur.

This Raycaster Engine shows what can be done if you know how to work the hardware. Originally released in the early 1980’s, the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A was technically a 16-bit platform. One of the earliest to be released to consumers. While that is impressive on paper, real world execution was lacking in many ways with this computer. As with most of these classic platforms, leave it to independent homebrew devs to push hard. That is what the Raycaster Engine proves.

The original Chaos Engine was an incredible game released in 1993, and developed by the very famous Bitmap Brothers. It was a well known title that at its core, was for the Amiga in which one or two players battled in a top down shooter genre against the evil creations of the titular Chaos Engine. With four landscapes to traverse and weapons to use it was an extremely popular game on any system. Well if you remember this incredible game, you'll be pleased to learn that the upcoming C64 version of ' The Chaos Engine 64 ', has received another teaser with some new demo footage

When talking about games on the Build Engine, there are three major ones: Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood. These are usually considered the best Build engine games, but right behind them is Redneck Rampage. Developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay Productions, Redneck Rampage was released in 1997, right around the time that 2.5D shooters, were slowly falling out of style. While the gaming industry was innovating with 3D graphics, almost all of the Build Engine games offered more interactivity and in turn, has a unique style.

Here on Indie Retro News we love conversions, especially Arcade ones such as Rygar to the Amiga, or even the upcoming Bomb Jack Arcade to the C64. Binary Land to the ZX Spectrum is one such conversion we are here to mention, as thanks to Saberman letting us know on Facebook. We've been told that as of this month Joflof has converted the 1983/85 Binary Land over to the speccy; a game which was originally developed by Hudson Soft in 1983 for the MSX, FM-7, NEC PC-6001, NEC PC-8801, and in 1985 for the Famicom.

Fancy playing another ZX Spectrum game for a new Monday announcement? Well how about this new game from Paul Jenkinson, it's Toofy's Nutty Nightmare; a game that was originally going to be released for the Vega+ but instead released for the ZX Spectrum. As in the words of the developer, a re-descovered game from his hard drive and adjusted for the ZX Spectrum as a jump and collect platformer.

Throughout the years there have been many Pac-Man games mentioned on Indie Retro News, from the Pac-Man Xtreme romhack, to Jr. Pac-Man on the Intellivision and even a Pac-Man game on the Pico-8, which all vary in style to the 1980's hit classic that can still be found today sitting as a port beside an Atari 2600 ( or if you're lucky an original Arcade machine ). Well ZX owners are about to get in on the Arcade fun as thanks to a heads up by our good friend Stuart Campbell, he has told us highrise has released a Pac Man hack for the ZX Spectrum called ' Pac-Hack '.

Denise v1.0.8 is released. Denise is a cycle accurate and platform independant c64 / amiga emulator. At the moment ONLY c64 cartridge, tape and prg files are supported and features like savestates are not available. My motivation for this project is understanding how it works and write clean and easy readable code.
Denise v1.0.8 changelog:
added Retro/Nordic Replay support
added macOS DMG installer [thanks to Retrofan for background image]
added xInput emulation for Windows rawInput driver [XBOX Controller, xMode devices]
fixed a few input handling bugs
added slider for analog trigger point when using for digital inputs
added help output in console: Denise -h
refactored GTK2 to GTK3 for Linux port
added hotkey to switch controller ports
added hotkeys to trigger power and soft reset
reworked menu structure and moved some settings in order to find them faster
moved some global hotkeys to emulator specific hotkeys, i.e. load/save states, SID control
reworked firmware view
added posibillity to swap in CHAR roms during active emulation
reworked software view
show placeholder picture when emulator is opened but still not running an emulation [thanks to Retrofan]
autoload for all media types with D64/T64 viewer in file dialog
added possibility to associate files with Denise for macOS
emulated left vertical line anomaly in overscan area
added confirmation dialog to write on disk/tape/flash permanently
open files as read only from OS point of view, if not able to open it in read/write mode
added possibility to customize D64 preview box in file dialog
improved D64 preview generation in UI to better match original

Chess for the Atari 2600 is not exactly a “hot” category for independent homebrew developers. I am not sure why not though. The board game is a venerable classic. Computer Chess offers the ability to play the game when you don’t have a physical opponent available. Sure, we did see Video Chess release back in the late 70’s, but that was so long ago. A homebrew developer is taking it upon themselves to create a more modern version of Chess for the Atari 2600.

It is no secret that Coronavirus, aka Covid-19, is gripping the world right now. It sucks for everyone, especially those afflicted with it. A programmer has taken the Space Invaders game on Atari 2600 and remixed it. Covid-19 game is the result. What was once aliens is now the Coronavirus. The goal is the same – destroy it all before it reaches the bottom of the screen.
